Listing policy
The rules every Around Me listing follows. They exist so customers can trust what they find.
Draft for review before launch.
1. Who can list
A business can be listed if it has a fixed physical location that members of the public visit in person during stated opening hours.
The following cannot be listed:
- online-only businesses;
- mobile, call-out or service-area businesses with no premises open to customers;
- private homes, and addresses not open to the public;
- virtual offices, registered-office and mail-forwarding addresses;
- businesses that have permanently closed;
- anything unlawful, or that requires a licence the business does not hold.
2. Location
- Listings are added only in the Around Me app, at the premises, using the device’s location.
- The location must be accurate to 50 metres or better. Locations from mock-location or spoofing tools are refused, and deliberately falsifying a location leads to removal.
- Each physical location is a separate listing.
3. Listing content
- The name must be the name customers see on the signage — no added keywords, locations or slogans.
- Choose the category that best describes what customers come in for.
- Contact details, website and opening hours must belong to that business and be kept accurate.
- Descriptions must be honest and must not contain offensive content, other businesses’ names or unrelated links.
4. Six-monthly confirmation
Every listing must be confirmed from the premises, in the app, every 6 months. The confirming device must be within 150 metres of the listed location. A listing not confirmed within 14 days of its due date is hidden from search until it is confirmed.
5. Silver, Gold and Platinum
Tier affects ranking only: Platinum, then Gold, then Silver, nearest first within each. Tiers are always labelled in the app. A paid tier does not exempt a listing from this policy or from confirmation.
6. Review and removal
Listings go live straight away. Anyone can report a listing from the app, and our team reviews every report. We may reject, hide or remove a listing that breaks this policy, and suspend accounts that repeatedly do so. Anyone can report a listing.
